Scoring goals left and right, Senior Monet Rahimpour, UC High girls soccer star center-forward has been tearing it up on the field. Getting on the Varsity Soccer Team her freshman year, she has shown her true skill and determination out on the field.
Rahimpour’s love for soccer is evident when she talks about her dedication to the sport. “I’ve been playing soccer since I was five years old, and I’ve never taken a break. I just love it,” said Rahimpour. She also spends the majority of her free time playing soccer. “For club, we practice three times a week and for high school, we practice five days a week,” said Rahimpour.
Rahimpour has very high hopes for the upcoming season. “We’re hoping to win the League again and move up Divisions,” said Rahimpour. In the 2023 season, she scored a whopping 16 goals. Varsity Coach Jason Donlon also has high hopes for Rahimpour this year “We expect to see her doing more of the same. Scoring goals, harassing opponents back lines and helping to lead the team to the playoffs,” said Donlon.
Rahimpour is a leader on the team. She said, “I believe and hope people look up to me on the team, especially outside of the classroom. Setting an example for them is such an important role, because when I was an underclassman it’s the help I needed and received from my past teammates.”
Another major role in Rahimpour’s love for soccer is her teammates. “I love my team and the connection we have,” said Rahimpour. The team’s spirit and passion for the game contributes to all of Rahimpours success. Her coaches have also played a significant role in all her accomplishments. “Somebody who has influenced my soccer career positively is my Coach Jason Donlon. He is a really good coach,” said Rahimpour.
Sophomore Audrey Forde who played with Rahimpour last year speaks very highly of her. “She is a great player and she’s always been nice to me,” said Forde. Rahimpour is a great positive role model for underclassmen. “If you’re thinking about trying out for the team, just be yourself,” said Rahimpour.
Her coach also speaks highly of Rahimpour. Donlon said he appreciates “…her fierce competitive spirit while on the pitch and her warm, charming and modest way when she’s off it. She’s just really fun to be around and the type of person and player you always want on your teams.” Donlon also mentioned “…her willingness to be coached and to listen. And her desire to want to compete, regardless of the situation presented to her.”
“Monet is athletically gifted with her strength and speed. Her game has become much more dynamic regarding her movement and she has the ability to unbalance her opponent to become more dangerous getting behind them and getting to goal,” said Donlon.
“For this season I’d like to win League, because last season we shared the win with Clairemont High School. I believe that if we play as a team we will be able to get the win!”
As Rahimpour continues to shine on the field, her dedication and love for the game is clear. With her impressive stats and high hopes for the upcoming season, she is not only a star player but also a great role model for underclassmen. Her skill, passion, and strong support from UC High coaches will continue to help her grow this upcoming season.
