Athelete: Senior Shannon McElhany

Position: Number One Singles

Experience: Third year on girls varsity tennis

Background: McElhany initially cheered for the SoCal Allstars cheer squad for five years, her freshman year being the last. During her sophomore year, she decided to take a new route and tryout for University City High School’s Dance Team. Still dancing strong as a senior, she has also been playing on UC’s Girls Varsity Tennis Team since the summer of 2009. Starting out at the Number Three Singles position, McElhany worked her way up to earn Number One Singles, and to becoming captain of the team her senior year. “Once [McElhany] gets on the court in a match, she’s very serious and very focused. Shannon’s dedication is vital to the team, because she is always determined to win no matter what,” said Coach Bonnie Newmark.
