UC High’s student body is invited to this year’s Avatar-themed Winter Formal taking place at the Birch Aquarium on February 8 from 6 to 9 p.m.
The UC High ASB account on Instagram says that pricing for tickets starts at $75 and runs until Jan 31. Students with an ASB card can buy their tickets at a discounted rate of $70. The last opportunity to purchase tickets will be from February 3 to February 6, and ticket prices will increase to $85 with the discounted rate increasing to $80 (@uchsasb).
The account also said that the deadline to submit the contract for approval of purchase will be the end of lunch on Thursday, February 6. Contracts must be signed before tickets can be purchased. There are no refunds or exchanges but this is subject to change if tickets sell out before the deadline (@uchsasb).
Other, more specific requirements to attend the dance include semi-formal attire at the event, having a weighted grade point average of 2.0 or above, a citizenship grade of 2.5 or above on the semester one report card, and having no “incidents” during semester one. On top of that, students with over 18 combined unexcused absences and tardies must clear their attendance before their contract is approved (@uchsasb).
ASB Senior Class Vice President Avery Phillips shared her experience planning the event. She said, “The goal in planning this dance is to allow students to be around their peers in a different environment than our campus. Aside from the dance floor, students that attend will have access to view a selection of animals including seahorses, sharks, and stingrays.”
Senior Katy Schoenknecht, who attended last year’s formal dance, and plans to attend this year’s dance, shared her excitement about the location of the dance: “Last year’s dance was pretty fun and had some cool activities, but when I found out that this year it was going to be off-campus at the Birch Aquarium I was so excited. An aquarium works with the theme and will make the night more memorable. I can’t wait to see what opportunities we will have to interact with the different sea creatures.”
Senior Leenoy Barkhordar, who also attended last year’s winter formal dance, is looking forward to attending this year’s rendition of the dance, “I wasn’t the biggest fan that last year the dance was at school, because it kind of felt similar to Homecoming and nothing special, but now that this year it is off campus, it adds a more interesting aspect and makes it more fun.”
