Link Crew is a high school transition program that is meant to increase success for freshmen during high school, where juniors and seniors are trained to be Link Crew Leaders who act as positive role models along with teachers, who help guide freshmen to discover what it takes to be successful during high school.
Math Teacher Advisor Cassandra Phillips said, “Of course there are some benefits to becoming a Link Crew Leader, these consist of giving back to the school and helping freshmen transition from middle school to high school by being a mentor to them. It will look great on your college applications as well.”
To become a Link Crew Leader, students must be available on the following dates: Monday, August 5 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m, Tuesday, August 6 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m, and Thursday, August 8 from 3:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. These times are subject to change, but the dates should remain the same.
PE Coach Ashley Harbecke is one of our newest teachers, and is one of the advisors for Link Crew. Harbecke said, “Link Crew organizes orientation events, mentorship activities throughout the school year to foster connections and create a sense of belonging among students. It’s a great way to build community within the school and ensure that all students feel supported during their transition into high school.”
According to The Boomerang Project, “Link Crew’s goal is to provide schools with a structure where the students can make connections with each other while increasing school safety and reducing the possibility of bullying in schools with anti-bullying education. Becoming a Link Crew leader is designed to increase self esteem as well give students a chance to experience character development,” (boomerangproject.com).
Currently, the applications are coming out on May 22 via Google Form. Link Crew is looking for approximately 40 to 80 students.
