UC High’s graduating class of 2012 will come together one last time to celebrate before graduation. On June 8, UC will be holding “Dinner and a Movie” at school for only seniors to attend.
According to Senior Advisor Michele Fournier, this event is free of charge and will take place at the school’s gym starting at 6:00 p.m. “We needed a Friday event and decided that a dinner on a Friday would be a popular event and a nice way to close out the school year for the class of 2012,” said Fournier.
This event is sponsored by UC High parents. “They are incorporating many of the popular activities from past Grad Nites,” Fournier said. “[They’re] also deciding to provide a dessert bar and drinks to accompany dinner, as well as a movie theater snack bar for students to enjoy while they watch the movie.
UC requires an event for each of the last days that seniors are in school, even though they are not attending the normal six-period schedule. “In the past,” Fournier said, “graduation occurred on a Friday, allowing a Senior Breakfast the next Monday for graduates to pick up their diplomas. This year, graduation will take place on a Tuesday.” Since graduation is on the last day of school, there is no need for students to return to school again to pick up their diplomas.
This will be the first time in recent years that UC will not be having a Senior Breakfast. According to Senior Class President Forrest Hamrick, many things concerning senior activities at the end of the year have changed, including the schedule for graduation day and not having a Grad Nite at school.
Senior Nia Hilton will be attending the senior Dinner and a Movie. She said, “I’m mostly going because I hear that there is going to be free food,” she said. Hilton is not worried about having the switch from breakfast to dinner. She said, “I’m just glad that I don’t have to wake up the next morning for breakfast.”
The Disneyland trip for seniors will take place on June 12, but not every senior is attending, including Senior Phoebe Naval. She said, “Since I’m not going to Disneyland, I’m looking forward to spending one last night with my graduating class.”
