UC High has been open to the idea of a Sadie Hawkins for years now, and after months of asking the district for permission to allow this dance, it has been confirmed that the dance will take place this upcoming spring.
Sadie Hawkins has its origins from 1937, when a person named Sadie Hawkins grew tired of waiting for boys to ask her out, so she decided to take the initiative, and ask them first (lil-abner.com). Now, even though it’s common for girls to ask guys out, a dance where girls have to ask the boys still excites many UC High students.
“I think Sadie Hawkins is a cool idea, because girls don’t have to wait around for the guys to ask,” said Junior Kayla Chapman. “I’m definitely going to ask someone.”
Many of the details are still being worked out, but according to Associated Student Body (ASB) member Gina Churness, the dance will be themed and there will be plenty of decorations.
ASB has experienced some difficulty trying to get the dance approved. The school hasn’t had the Hawkins dance in years past due to lack of initiative within the student body. Once they started planning, they encountered issues with the administration. At first, according to Churness, the school administration didn’t approve, so ASB went to the Centurion Foundation to get permission. The Foundation supported the idea.
