Although it seems winter has just begun, spring is fast approaching with less than three weeks left until the world begins to bloom again. As the warm weather arrives, San Diego comes alive with opportunities for adventure, whether it’s hiking scenic trails, exploring hidden beaches, or indulging in the city’s vibrant food scene. Spring is the perfect time to embrace the outdoors and try something new.
Beautiful California is known for its notorious stunning beaches that can be visited year round, but what fun is a beach when the sand is cold and the sunshine is hidden behind clouds? When spring comes, so does sunshine, opening up the beginning of beach days. Nonetheless, it’s important to recognize that San Diego has much more to offer than just its stunning beaches and glimmering ocean.
Sunshine after the rain sets up for blooms of the Carlsbad flower fields, where acres upon acres of a variety of colorful flowers can be found throughout the whole property. The astounding view is a great place for pictures with friends, or even just for a peaceful view of San Diego from a different angle. Plus, on the same property, strawberry fields can also be found, where people can pick their own scrumptious strawberries.
Another great place to visit in the spring is Balboa Park, especially now that they have reopened their famous botanical gardens. Balboa Park is not only rooted in its beautiful architecture and buildings, but it’s also surrounded by history and culture with 17 museums in addition to the festivals, food, and other activities all located in close proximity (balboapark.org). This makes it the perfect location for a day trip with friends in the upcoming spring.
Not only does spring usher in perfect weather, but it also marks the start of baseball season. What better way to enjoy San Diego than catching a Padres game? Taking place at Petco Park, these games occur almost every day in the center of downtown for a guaranteed good time. Speaking of sports, the city just launched its very own San Diego Football club (or soccer team) adding a whole wave of excitement to the local sports scene.
Visiting any local farmers market in San Diego is always a must whenever looking for a good place to window shop or pick up some fresh, locally grown produce. One of the top rated farmers markets is the Little Italy market, held on Saturday mornings, a perfect way to kick off the weekend. Senior Leenoy Barkhordar said, “The Little Italy farmers market is one of my favorite places to go get flowers and a yummy sweet treat.” Farmers markets offer a little bit of everything, so no matter what your favorite flavors are, you’re sure to find something that piques your interest (littleitalysd.com).
No matter what, spring always brings a variety of activities to enjoy. Whatever one’s hobbies may be, there will always be something fun to do that adds a touch of adventure to kick off San Diego’s sunny season. From new sports teams to beautiful beaches, or exploring the city’s vibrant buildings and open fields, there’s no shortage of excitement.
