While school is just about ending for students, hundreds of music artists and bands are gearing up for their summer tours. Many celebrated musicians will visit San Diego during the warmer months, and no matter what your musical preference is, you’re sure to find a great concert this summer.
Nearly all of the Del Mar Fair’s amazing concerts are free with an admission ticket into the park. This year, “Weird Al” Yankonovic, Switchfoot, Neon Trees, Big Time Rush, Joan Jett and The Beach Boys, among others, perform as part of the Toyota Summer Concert Series at the Fair (sdfair.com).
For country lovers, there’s a lot to be excited for. The highly acclaimed county band Sugarland will play at RIMAC Field. Country Crooner Toby Keith will also perform with Eric Church at Cricket Amphitheatre (livenation.com).
A large variety of rock and pop groups are coming to town this summer. “I want to go to the Katy Perry concert,” said Sophomores Erin Xavier and Reid Atkins. Katy Perry will play three consecutive shows at the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles. Other notable pop and rock artists coming to town include Panic at the Disco who will play the House of Blues, and Kings of Leon who will be sure to draw in crowds at the Cricket Wireless Amphitheatre (livenation.com).
“I’m going to see the Cold War Kids,” said Sophomore Sebastian Le Bras. Cold War Kids, an American indie band, will headline FM 94.9’s Independence Jam 2011 Coastal Invasion at the Oceanside Pier Amphitheatre on June 5 with several other acts including Lykke Li and Peter Bjorn & John (fm949sd.com). Death Cab For Cutie will headline a show at RIMAC Arena on August 16, in support of their new album (deathcabforcutie.com).
Perhaps the most highly anticipated event of the summer is the Vans Warped Tour. According to Live Nation, Vans Warped Tour is America’s longest running concert festival tour, this year being it’s seventeenth tour. Nearly 600,000 people see it every summer. Warped Tour features the likes of Paramore, A Day To Remember, Big D and The Kids Table, and Jack’s Mannequin. The tour will make its way to San Diego on August 9 at the Cricket Wireless Amphitheatre (vanswarpedtour.com).
One of the six hundred thousand that will see the Warped Tour across the country this summer is Freshman Paola Perez. “It’s going to be a lot of fun, because I’m going with all my friends, and I like a lot of the bands playing this year,” Perez said.
From indie to pop to country, San Diego will host a fantastic array of summer concerts that are sure to be enjoyed.
